It builds on David Cameron backing BT’s promise of 700 new apprentice positions on 5 March, with 3,500 from Microsoft Partners, 2,000 from Greene King, 1,000 from the RAF and 500 from Halfords. Additionally, British Airways, Boots, Travis Perkins, Kwik-Fit, National Rail, Aldi and Santander are among the other hundreds of recruiters.
Real Business found at the House of Commons this week that SMEs are slow in their adoption of apprentices from Andrew Jones and Nick Boles, and the new 23,000 figure will also see young talent welcomed at small and medium firms including Derry Building Services, Berthon Boat Company and Paw-Fect Grooming.
Among numerous benefits of hiring apprentices which British Chambers of Commerce president Nora Senior said includes the means to safeguard talents for the future the Centre for Economics and Business Research said this week that 5m consumers prefer to do business with apprentice employers.
Vince Cable, business secretary, said: The success of National Apprenticeship Week 2015 and these 23,000 pledges highlights just how popular apprenticeships have become.

Nick Boles, skills minister, added: Apprenticeships deliver for employers, young people, adults and the economy. The vacancies announced this week will provide life-changing opportunities for prospective apprentices across the country as well as helping businesses to unlock their potential.
