The 89th Academy Awards gave viewers the chance to admire their stars in glittering attire and see the best in the industry awarded the ultimate accolade in film. Few will recognise any of the winners for make-up and sound mixing though, which leads me to believe there is something businesses can learn from the movie industry.
Whether an award has a helping hand in increasing revenues is a question we often ask. Of course, you prove the skills of your team and it gives you the opportunity to shout about your quality and standards, not to mention a boost in reputation. We sat down with Mike McGee, co-founder and creative director of Framestore, about the evolution from four-person startup to winning an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for work on sci-fi film Gravity, and what skills employees require to fit the company’s diverse operation.
