Marco Pierre White: How I spend my money

Millionaire master chef Marco Pierre White says he’s not materialistic, but he’d rather have a priceless piece of art than a large bank balance.

Pierre White, who at 33 became the youngest restaurant owner to receive three Michelin stars only to hand them back five years later, is arguably Britain’s most talented chef.

And with TV shows, advertising deals and, err, restaurants all in the cooking pot he’s doing quite nicely thank you very much.

But in this interview with the Telegraph newspaper he explains why all the riches in the world can’t by what he really wants.

Asked what his best business decision was, he replies that it wasn’t about return on investment but buying into classic brands – as his late mother once put it: a tree without roots is a plank of wood.
